Been injured in an accident? Take steps to protect your case.

a. See your Physician: Visit your Doctor right away if you suffer injury. Describe to your physician the intensity and location of your pain in an open and honest manner. Disclose all previous injuries that may be relevant because the Doctor will need to know this information for proper treatment. Your physician likely will ask many questions that you don't have an answer for, and it is fine to say that you don't know. You should never guess and give potentially false information. Of utmost importance, follow your Doctor's recommendations and advice.

b. Do not communicate to anyone about your injury: Speak only to your Doctor and your Lawyer about your injury. Do not make statements whether in writing, over the telephone or in person to anyone without clearing it with your Attorney beforehand.

c. Use Personal Injury Resource Center and find a Qualified Attorney: Your attorney will further advise you about how to conduct yourself following your injury, which is invaluable.

d. Make no admissions of fault: As mentioned above, speak to no one save your attorney or doctor regarding your injury. Statements to others may be interpreted to be admissions of fault.

e. Document with Photos: Make sure you photograph any damage to yourself and your property if applicable. Take several pictures and save duplicate copies.

f. Keep Evidence of Injury: Save all medication containers, arm and leg braces, casts, and any other medical equipment prescribed by your Doctor.

g. Scene of the Accident: Deliver all photos, videos, and/or notes regarding the accident scene that you have or have gathered from witnesses to your attorney.

h. Gather Receipts: Obtain all of your receipt or get all of them which itemize your expenses that you incurred as a result of your injuries. Ensure that the receipts are readable and contain all relevant provider or vendor information.

i. Additional Information: Speak with your attorney and tell him or her anything and everything you think may have importance to your case. Especially relevant is extensive hospitalization or medical treatment.
