<h2>Beds – Types and uses</h2> <p> A piece of furniture that is primarily used for sleeping, a bed carries a lot of emotions attached to it. Many a part of our time in our sweet homes revolve around our beds. A bed is generally used for sleeping but it is used for other reasons like relaxing and other activities.<br /><br />There are three layers to a bed. The three layers are the mattress, the box spring and the bed frame. Most beds come with these three layers. The mattresses were mostly filled with straw and the wealthier people had feathers instead of straw. Later these materials were replaced with cotton and artificial fillers. Today, most mattresses have latex, water, air, solid foam, springs, etc. These days mattresses also have artificial fibers as fillers. <br /><br />The head is given support with pillows and these are used with the beds. Most of the time, the material with which beds are made is wood or metal. Now-a-days artificial materials are coming into use. These materials are durable but light. Beds fall in the category of furniture and many people consider a lot of things before buying a bed. Beds can be broadly divided into two types: the single bed and the double bed. The single bed is usually meant for one person to lie down or sleep on. The double bed is used mainly for two reasons to lie down on. But, now-a-days other materials are also used. The beds are strong and durable and they can be expensive and heavy. The second layer is the box spring. This part is also called the divan thought he divan is another piece of furniture that looks like a bed but is not a bed. The box spring is a big mattress sized box. It contains wood and spring and gives additional support to the mattress. It also gives suspension for the mattress.<br /><br />In most countries there is a standard size of the beds. There are also standard sizes of mattresses. The most common sizes of beds in the United States are the single, double, twin and full size beds. These beds are called by other names at other places. The third layer of the bed is the bed frame. This is the part that enables the mattress/mattress box spring off the ground. The bed frame is an important part of the bed. To provide a head support most people use a pillow. The pillow is placed on the top of the mattress. Along with the pillow are used bed sheets, quilt, duvet and blanket.<br /><br />A divan bed is a particular type of bed. It is an armless couch and is also a called a day bed. It can be used for sitting as well as lying down. .It can also be said to be an upholstered seat. A divan bed is intended for more than one person to sit on. A divan bed can be used for multiple purposes. It is beautiful to look at and was very popular in the past.
