When many people think about refurbished products, they think of the great savings. Others may hesitate, not knowing what refurbished means and thinking they are paying less for a product that was sent back to the manufacturer due to some defect. But the truth is that most refurbished products have never had any defects at all. The problem is that they cannot be sold as new due to laws.

Products that are refurbished by the manufacturer can come from many sources. Sometimes they are items that have been returned by customers for any reason within the return period, even if the product is in perfect shape. They may also have been products with minor cosmetic flaws such as scratches, or they may have been overstocked items which have been returned by the merchant to make room for other items. They could also be products that may have been leased out for short durations or used for demos and displays.

They are tested again to ensure they meet all the specifications and standards of a new product. These items are then sold as refurbished products and are generally priced less than the new products. Refurbished items are also called as "refurbs" for short, or "factory reconditioned," or "remanufactured" products.

Each product that is taken to the factory for refurbishing is first inspected and checked for flaws . They are then accordingly repaired to meet full factory standards and tested rigorously for compliance. Some manufacturers even test them twice. They are also cleaned. The advantage to consumers is that refurbs are generally are so well tested before being put up for sale again that they have a very low return rate.

Generally, reconditioned products come with a manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty may be the same length as a new product, or it may be less, so be sure to read the product details before purchasing a refurbished item to make sure you know what you’re buying.

Now that you are armed with information about where and how products are refurbished, you can make sound buying decisions. There is no limit to the variety of reconditioned products for sale. You can buy refurbished computers, digital cameras, printers, and other electronic goods, and a range of other reconditioned items such as refurbished paintball guns, exercise equipment, golf clubs, small appliances and much more. And you can buy these items at a discount knowing that they meet the same specifications as new products – but cost a lot less.
