Disadvantages of timeshare ownership

So your looking into a timeshare. Take the time that is needed to make and educated decision. There are many disadvantaged to timeshare ownership. When you purchase a timeshare slot, what you are doing is purchasing a particular time slot and a particular resort. There's not much freedom in that now is there? Timeshares are very popular, all I am suggesting is that people do a little investigating prior to making that kind of huge purchase.

Before buying a timeshare property you will have to consider whether it suits to your lifestyle and finances. Timeshare ownership is an investment in an exotic vacationing spot but the buyers may get disappointed if they are buying the timeshare property for its appreciating property value. On to another peeve of mine. When trying to resale a timesale, you are going to have a tough time. The resale market of timeshare siply does not increase as most other properties do. These things simply are reselling for what you paid. Also you cannot send friends or family on vacation as you cannot use your timeshare twice in a year.

Yearly maintenance charges should be paid despite of the fact whether you use it or not. There is a need of advanced planning for spending a comfortable vacation at the timeshare property. The owner of the timeshare property has to interact with exchange companies and has to deal with the costs.

Ok, so you've decided to go ahead and purchase a timeshare membership. How are you planning on paying for it? Tradional mortgages are not available to financie your timeshare, so you are left to pay for it out of pocket or open yourself up for some other type of creative financing you may stumble upon. Are you sure you really what to do this? After all who whant to vacation in the same location (and often the same exact room) every year? Not me.

Timeshare ownership is simply not for the spontaneous, drop of the hat traveler. And timeshares are really expensive. Sorry but this is just not appealing to me.
